This blog is dedicated to the memory of Raymond Richardson Miles II
Miles was a tenored Art professor at the University of Massachusetts,Amherst. No Mr Miles was not Perfect, but this blog is generated to focus on his ARTWORK, the main passion that helped him survive until his untimely death in Beaverton Oregon in 1994. Ray's ashes were spread at Ft Story in Virginia Beach Virginia.
Pleased to have found this. I took a metal sculpture class from Ray sometime around 1973 in the basement of Mills house. It was a small room with pieces of metal and gas welding equipment. I think he might have left it open all night so you come in and work whenever you wanted. He defined the liberal spirit of UMass at that time. I wish I didn't give away the final piece I made for that class. Is his art on display somewhere now?
